Calabash spoon

The gourd calabash is an herbaceous plant of the family Cucurbitaceae. It develops particularly well under a tropical climate.

The fruit, of spherical or elongated shape, can reach up to 1m length at maturity. The gourd gourd is cultivated either as a nutrient or as a raw material for the manufacture of many objects. (bowl, kitchen utensils, instruments etc...)

The gourd is emptied and dried in the sun before being processed. It is the seeds, which are preserved, that produce the clear sound of quality that we obtain when we shake the instrument.

We offer on the site, calabash spoons and dishes / bowls / wall decorations.

The spoon calabash is used at Soninke weddings, it is called qáráxànmê.
